Can I drive my Ford while software is updating?
Software Updates - SYNC®*4A
- Some updates will happen seamlessly in the background while you are driving.
- Non-drivable updates require your vehicle to be turned off while updating. Most complete within minutes, while others may take longer**. You should schedule the update to occur when you do not need to drive your vehicle, such as overnight.
SYNC Updates - SYNC™ 3 and Previous Versions of SYNC
- Wi-Fi (SYNC 3 required): You can drive and use SYNC during the update.
- Flash drive (SYNC™ 3 and previous versions of SYNC): Your vehicle must be in park when you initiate the SYNC update installation process. Make sure your vehicle is in a well-ventilated area as your vehicle must remain running until the update is complete. Once the download process starts, you may drive your vehicle.
*Don’t drive while distracted. Use voice-operated systems when possible; don’t use handheld devices while driving. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.
**Always check your in-vehicle screen or FordPass app for the most accurate estimated update time.
