What do I do if Android Auto does not connect to SYNC® 4A?
We understand that you may currently be experiencing connectivity challenges with your Android Auto application and your Ford SYNC® 4A system, whether through wired or wireless connections. This issue is often associated with a recent Android Auto update to version 6.4.411714. Ford is committed to ensuring a seamless experience, and we provide the following troubleshooting steps to help you restore full functionality.
For Wireless Connection Issues
Should you encounter difficulties with your wireless Android Auto connection, please follow these steps:
- Delete Your Paired Phone from SYNC:
- Tap the vehicle icon on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
- Press Settings.
- Tap Phone List.
- Select your phone from the list.
- Press the Delete (waste bin icon) to remove the pairing.
- Perform a SYNC Module Reset: This typically involves a soft reset of your SYNC system.
- Power Cycle Your Phone:
- Completely power off your mobile phone for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Power your phone back on.
- Reconnect and Pair: Connect your phone to a USB port in your vehicle to re-pair it with SYNC.
- Enable Android Auto in SYNC Settings:
- Tap the vehicle icon on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
- Press Settings.
- Tap Android Auto Preferences.
- Select Enable Android Auto.
If these steps do not resolve the wireless issue, we recommend continuing to tether your phone via a USB port for Android Auto capabilities.
For USB Connection Issues
If your Android phone reboots when connected to SYNC via a USB cable, it is crucial to update your Chrome browser. Please ensure that Chrome is updated to version 88.0.4324.181 or a later version.
Note: Should you experience any difficulty updating your device, your cell phone service provider can provide assistance.
