How do I perform a factory reset with SYNC® 4A?

Learn how to perform a factory reset on your Ford SYNC® 4A system to resolve issues. This guide provides steps for both a soft system reset and a full master reset, detailing how to clear all stored data and restore default settings.

If you are experiencing issues with your SYNC® 4A system, you can attempt to resolve them by performing either a system reset or a factory reset.

Performing a system reset: Before opting for a full factory reset, try performing a system reset. This action restores functionality without deleting any of your stored data.

  • For vehicles equipped with a power button: Press and hold both the Power button (located at the center of the volume knob) and the Seek Right button simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds.
  • For vehicles not equipped with a power button: Press and hold both the Volume Down and Seek Right buttons on your steering wheel controls simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds.

If the system reset does not resolve the issue, proceed with a master reset.

Performing a factory reset: A SYNC factory reset will erase all stored data, including FordPass Connect™ (modem) activation, authorizations, call history, text messages, previously paired phones, and navigation favorites.

  1. Tap the Vehicle image located at the top of your SYNC screen.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Press Reset.
  4. Tap Master Reset.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the reset process.
