What is emergency assistance with SYNC?

Discover how Ford SYNC Emergency Assistance automatically connects you to emergency services using your paired phone in the event of a severe collision, enhancing safety.

The SYNC™ Emergency Assistance system is a crucial safety feature designed to automatically contact emergency services via a paired mobile phone following a severe accident.

Operation is initiated by vehicle sensor data detecting a collision of sufficient severity, typically linked to the deployment of specific airbags or activation of the fuel pump shut-off. Upon detection, the system uses a connected Bluetooth-enabled phone to dial the emergency number.

Following an incident, SYNC provides a brief period (approximately 10 seconds) during which the call can be cancelled by the user. If not cancelled, SYNC places the call, plays a pre-recorded message for the emergency operator, and then allows occupants to communicate directly. Relevant vehicle data may also be transmitted.

You can enable or disable the Emergency Assistance feature within the SYNC settings menu; this setting applies to all connected phones.

For the system to function, several conditions must be met: the SYNC system must be operational, the Emergency Assistance feature must be active before the collision, a compatible Bluetooth phone must be properly paired and connected with sufficient network coverage, battery power, and signal, and the vehicle must retain battery power and be within a supported region.

The system may not operate if the phone or hardware is damaged in the crash, if vehicle or SYNC power is lost, if the phone is ejected, or due to phone compatibility issues.

It is essential that the Emergency Assistance setting is active before commencing any journey. This system is a valuable aid but should not replace manually contacting emergency services if possible. Always secure your mobile phone properly within the vehicle to help prevent damage during a collision.
