Learn how to turn the headlight delay function (Home Safe Lighting) on and off in your Ford vehicle to provide illumination after the engine is turned off. This feature enhances confidence and safety in dark areas, with simple operating steps and essential information you should know.

The headlight delay system is designed to provide temporary path lighting after you turn off the engine and exit the vehicle, increasing convenience and safety when parking in dark areas or walking home at night.

Activation Steps

You can easily turn the system on by following these steps:

  1. Ensure the ignition is in the OFF position and the headlights are turned off.
  2. Pull the turn signal lever toward you once.
  3. The system will emit a short chime to confirm that the system is activated.

Deactivation Steps

If you wish to turn off the lights early, you can pull the turn signal lever toward you again, or simply turn the vehicle ignition on. The system will cancel the delay immediately.

Automatic Operating Duration

For maximum efficiency and to save battery power, the system controls the headlight shut-off as follows:

  • The headlights will turn off automatically within 3 minutes if any door is left open.
  • The headlights will turn off within approximately 30 seconds after the last door is closed.

This function ensures you have enough path lighting to reach your destination safely before the lights turn off automatically. For model-specific information, please check the details in your Ford Owner’s Manual.
