How do I check if the air conditioning system is leaking?

Learn to identify normal A/C condensation versus a system leak in your Ford. Understand the signs of a blocked A/C drain and when to seek professional service to prevent cabin moisture.

Your vehicle's Air Conditioning (A/C) system is designed to both cool and dehumidify the air. During operation, water vapour within the air passing through the A/C system condenses on the evaporator, which is located within the Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) case behind the dashboard. This condensate typically drains onto the ground beneath the vehicle via a tube extending from the HVAC case.

Consequently, it is normal to observe a small puddle of water under your vehicle (usually beneath the front passenger footwell area) after the A/C has been in use. However, if the drain hole becomes plugged or dislodged, the condensate may leak into the vehicle's interior, manifesting as moisture on the footwell carpet or as mist accumulating on the windows. Should you notice these symptoms, please promptly bring your vehicle to your local authorized Ford Dealership for service.
