What is the Driver Alert System?
Get to know the Driver Alert System, a safety technology from Ford that helps detect drowsiness or reduced driving performance. Learn about the camera sensor principles and the alerts that notify you when it is time to take a break, ensuring maximum safety for you and your fellow travelers on every journey.
The Driver Alert System is an intelligent safety feature designed to monitor and warn you when the system detects signs of fatigue, drowsiness, or unusual vehicle control. Its primary goal is to help prevent accidents caused by falling asleep at the wheel.
How the System Works
The system operates via a camera sensor mounted behind the windshield, which continuously analyzes your driving behavior by:
- Processing the relationship between your steering control and lane markings.
- Calculating your alertness level based on various driving factors.
- If the system detects that you are swerving or unable to maintain your lane position effectively, it will issue an immediate alert.
Alert Levels
To ensure you are aware and prepared to rest, the system provides two levels of alerts:
- Initial Warning: Displays a brief message on the screen suggesting that you take a break.
- Secondary Warning: If driving performance does not improve, the system will display a persistent warning on the instrument cluster until you stop to rest or manually cancel the alert.
System Settings and Resetting
You can choose to enable or disable the Driver Alert System as desired through the settings menu on the touchscreen. The system will always remember your most recent setting. Additionally, you can easily reset the system by restarting the engine or by parking the vehicle and opening and closing the driver's door.
