What is the Driver Alert System?
The Driver Alert System is a safety feature designed to detect and alert the driver when signs of drowsiness or reduced driving performance are identified.
The system operates by processing data from a camera sensor typically mounted behind the windshield. It analyzes the driver's behaviour, considering the relationship between vehicle control and lane markings on the road, along with other factors, to calculate the driver's level of alertness.
The system provides alerts in two stages: initially, a brief message is displayed recommending the driver take a rest break. If the system continues to detect reduced driving performance, a second-level alert is issued, which remains displayed on the instrument cluster until it is cancelled.
Drivers can enable or disable this alert system via the settings menu on the touchscreen display. The last setting is retained for subsequent use. The system can be reset by starting and stopping the vehicle, or by stopping the vehicle and opening and closing the driver's door. A status indicator light will illuminate to confirm the system is ready for operation.
Note: This system is an assistance tool only and does not replace the driver's fundamental responsibility to operate the vehicle cautiously and attentively at all times. Drivers should take a break immediately if feeling fatigued, without solely relying on the system's alert. The system's performance may be limited or affected in severe weather conditions such as heavy rain, snow, or dense fog, or if the sensor is blocked, damaged, unable to detect clear lane markings, or if driving speed is below approximately 65 km/h. Certain driving styles may also trigger alerts unnecessarily.
