What is the Drive Mode Control system?
Ford Everest and Ranger vehicles are equipped with Selectable Drive Modes, an advanced system designed to optimise performance and control across diverse driving conditions, from daily commuting to challenging off-road adventures and heavy towing. Easily selected via a dial or button on the centre console, the chosen mode is clearly displayed on the digital instrument cluster, often with illustrative animations.
The system adjusts various vehicle parameters to suit the selected mode. Available modes typically include:
- Normal: Balanced performance for everyday road driving.
- Eco: Maximises fuel efficiency, ideal for steady highway speeds.
- Tow/Haul: Optimises gear shifts and engine braking for towing or carrying heavy loads, enhancing control.
- Slippery: Improves traction and stability on low-grip surfaces like wet roads or gravel.
- Mud/Ruts (on 4x4 models): Helps maintain momentum in muddy or uneven off-road terrain.
- Sand (on 4x4 models): Adjusts power delivery and stability control for driving on sand and loose surfaces.
For off-road enthusiasts, the SYNC®4A infotainment screen provides a dedicated Off-Road Display, showing essential information such as driveline status, Diff-Lock engagement, steering angle, and vehicle pitch and roll angles, along with a front camera view for navigating obstacles.
Ford Everest and Ranger offer different 4x4 driveline options, including Part-Time (2H, 4H, 4L) with electronic Shift-On-The-Fly capability (up to 110 km/h for 4H) and On-Demand systems. 2H is for normal roads, 4H for improved grip on loose surfaces, and 4L provides low-speed, high-torque capability for difficult terrain (requires stopping).
Further enhancing off-road capability is the Electric Rear Differential Lock, which can be engaged via the off-road screen to ensure both rear wheels rotate at the same speed for maximum traction. Additionally, Hill Descent Control is available on certain 4x4 variants, providing controlled descent speeds on steep slopes without constant braking, managed via the off-road display and cruise control buttons.
These systems collectively ensure your Ford vehicle is prepared to tackle virtually any environment with confidence and capability.
