What is the Blind Spot Information System?
Get to know the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), a safety technology from Ford that alerts you when a vehicle is in your blind spot. Learn about its operation, detection range, and how to enable or disable the system for safer and more confident driving on every journey.
The Blind Spot Information System, or BLIS, is an intelligent assistant that monitors areas your eyes might miss through the side mirrors. The system detects other vehicles moving into your blind spot to help prevent accidents during lane changes.
How the System Works
The system uses sensors mounted on both sides of the vehicle to detect objects, with detection ranges that adjust based on speed as follows:
- Base Range: Detects from the side mirrors to approximately 4 meters behind the rear bumper.
- At High Speeds (over 48 km/h): The system extends the detection area to approximately 18 meters behind the rear bumper to alert you if another vehicle is approaching quickly from behind.
How to Enable and Disable the System
You can manually control the system through the menu on the touchscreen:
- Go to the Settings menu.
- Select Driver Assistance.
- Select Blind Spot Information System to turn it On or Off.
Important Notes Regarding Warning Lights
- If you turn the system off, the warning light will remain illuminated on the instrument cluster to indicate the status.
- When the system is enabled or disabled, the warning light will flash twice to confirm the action.
- The system always remembers the last setting. When you next start the vehicle, the system will operate according to your previous configuration.
