How does the 360-degree camera system work?
Learn how the Ford 360-degree camera system works and how to use it to improve your visibility. This system helps you park and avoid obstacles in blind spots safely and confidently during every drive.
How the 360-Degree Camera System Works
The 360-degree camera system is designed to help improve your safety and driving convenience. The key benefits include:
- Displaying obstacles directly in front of or behind your vehicle.
- Assisting with parallel parking and centering your vehicle in a parking space.
- Improving front and rear visibility while you are reversing.
- Showing a top-down (bird's-eye) view around your vehicle, including blind spots and nearby obstacles.
Safety Precautions and Warnings
For maximum safety when using the 360-degree camera system, please strictly adhere to the following warnings:
- The 360-degree camera system is a driver assist system only. You must still look out the windows and always check your rearview and sideview mirrors to ensure the most comprehensive view around your vehicle.
- Objects near the corners of the bumper or under the bumper may not display on the screen due to the limits of the camera field of view.
- When you manually enable the image zoom, the screen will not display the entire area behind your vehicle. Please check the area around your vehicle with caution when using the zoom feature.
- Do not turn the camera system on or off while the vehicle is moving.
- You are responsible for controlling your vehicle at all times while driving. This system cannot replace driver caution and attentiveness. Failure to follow these warnings may result in a loss of vehicle control, serious personal injury, or death.
Camera Installation Locations Around the Vehicle
The 360-degree camera system consists of four cameras installed around your vehicle in the following locations:
- Rear View Camera: Installed near the tailgate, this camera displays video of the area behind your vehicle.
Front View Camera: Installed on the front grille, this camera displays video of the area in front of your vehicle.
Note: The front view camera turns on automatically when your vehicle is in Mud/Rut mode, Deep Snow/Sand mode, or when the four-wheel drive system is operating in low range (4L).
- Side View Cameras: Installed under both side mirrors, these cameras display video of the areas beside your vehicle to assist you while parking or reversing with a trailer.
Guidelines and Distance Zones on the Screen
When you enable the camera system, the screen displays guidelines and simulated symbols to assist with distance estimation:
Note: Guidelines and path lines will display on the screen only when you shift into Reverse (R).
- Active Guidelines: These display along with fixed guidelines. These lines turn with the steering wheel angle to indicate the path the vehicle will travel. If you change the steering wheel position while reversing, the vehicle may move off the original path. Active guidelines will not display when the steering wheel is in the straight position.
- Fixed Guidelines: These are divided into three color zones to help you easily estimate the distance to objects:
- Red Zone: Displays objects closest to your vehicle.
- Yellow Zone: Displays objects that are getting closer to your vehicle.
- Green Zone: Displays objects farthest from your vehicle.
- Keep-Out Zone: Represented by yellow dotted lines running parallel to the sides of your vehicle.
- Blind Area: Displayed as a black box surrounding the 360-degree vehicle graphic, representing the area that the cameras cannot capture.
How to Configure and Enable the 360-Degree Camera
Turning the Camera System On and Off
- You can easily enable the camera system by pressing the camera button located above the touchscreen.
- When you shift into Reverse (R), the rear view camera will turn on automatically, and you can select additional views on the screen.
- If the vehicle is in Park (P), Neutral (N), or Drive (D), the system will display the front view when you press the camera button.
- Note: The 360-degree camera system will turn off automatically when the vehicle reaches a certain speed, except when you are in Reverse (R).
Turning Additional Views On and Off
You can choose to turn additional camera views on or off as needed through the touchscreen:
- Trailer Side View: The system automatically displays side views of the vehicle and trailer when you use the turn signal while connected to a trailer, helping to improve visibility during lane changes and turns. You can turn this view on or off by navigating to the Driver Assistance menu on the center display.
- Automatic Split Rear View: The system automatically switches to a split rear view when you shift into Reverse (R) and the reverse warning system is active. You can turn this function on or off in the Driver Assistance menu on the center display.
