What is the Lane Keeping System?
Get to know the Lane Keeping System, an intelligent safety technology from Ford that helps monitor and maintain your vehicle's position within its lane. Learn about the alert modes and operating conditions designed to help reduce accident risks and increase your confidence while driving on the highway.
What is the Lane Keeping System?
The Lane Keeping System is a technology that uses a camera mounted behind the windshield to detect road lane markings. If the system detects the vehicle drifting out of its lane without a turn signal being activated, it will provide a warning signal or steering assistance to help return the vehicle to a safe position.
What are the selectable operating modes?
You can adjust the settings based on your preference with three available modes:
- Alert: The steering wheel vibrates to warn you that the vehicle is starting to drift out of its lane.
- Aid: The system applies a gentle steering torque to help guide the vehicle back toward the center of the lane.
- Alert and Aid: Combines both vibration warnings and steering assistance for maximum safety.
What are the important conditions and limitations?
- Vehicle Speed: The system activates when the vehicle speed is above 64 km/h.
- Lane Marking Clarity: The camera must be able to clearly detect lane markings or road edges on at least one side. The system may not function at full efficiency in poor weather conditions or if lane markings are faded.
- Driver Responsibility: This is a driver-assist system only. You must keep your hands on the steering wheel and remain focused on controlling the vehicle at all times, staying ready to intervene in steering if necessary.
Understanding how to use the Lane Keeping System will help enhance safety for you and others on the road. For model-specific information, please refer to your Ford Owner’s Manual.
