Ford Group of Companies in Thailand

Ford Thailand has been a leader of Thailand's automotive industry since entering the market in 1995 through the formation of the AutoAlliance Co., Ltd (AAT), a joint venture between Ford and Mazda located in Rayong province. The AAT facility represents an initial investment of US$500 million, and produces Ford Ranger and Mazda Fighter B-series pickup trucks for both domestic sale and export to 120 markets worldwide. In 2003, Ford invested an additional $500 million into the joint venture to support vehicle development programs and expansion of the plant’s capacity. After more than a decade of operations in Thailand, Ford has produced more than one million quality vehicles at AAT.

Ford has constantly grown its business in Thailand and currently operates under five companies, including AutoAlliance (Thailand), Ford Thailand Manufacturing, Ford Sales & Service (Thailand), Ford Operations (Thailand), Ford Leasing and Ford Services (Thailand).

Identifying Thailand as critical to its success in Asia, Ford established its Asia Pacific and Africa headquarters in Bangkok in 2003 to spearhead its Asian growth strategy and support its ASEAN regional operations, Ford Asia-Pacific Marketing, Sales & Service, and Ford Credit Asia-Pacific.

AutoAlliance (Thailand) – A joint venture with Mazda and other local partners, AutoAlliance (Thailand) Co. Ltd. was formed in 1995 and began producing Ford Rangers and Mazda Fighter/ B-series at its Rayong province location in 1998. Its start-up annual production capacity was 130,000 units, which has been increased to its current 175,000 units, of which 30 percent is for domestic sale and 70 percent for export.

Ford Thailand Manufacturing (FTM) will have an initial production capacity of 150,000 vehicles – increasing the company’s annual capacity in Thailand to 445,000 – making Ford one of the largest producers and exporters of vehicles in the country. The new, highly flexible plant will begin production of Ford’s next-generation Ford Focus in June 2012 and will be capable of producing a diversified range of products in the future.

The new US $450 million / THB 14 billion FTM investment underscores the strategic role of Thailand as a volume production and export hub for the region and a reflection of Ford’s commitment to the continued growth of Thailand’s auto industry
